We believe everyone should have access to the education and certification necessary to be qualified for employment in the forestry and fire service.

Fee Waiver & Tuition Assistance

Academy application must also be completed in order to be considered.

All applicants seeking a fee waiver or discounted tuition must complete Section 9 (Fee Waiver & Tuition Assistance) within the Academy Application.

If you would like to apply for a full Fee Waiver you must also submit the essay assignment detailed below.

Essay Instructions

To complete your scholarship application you must submit an essay following the instructions listed below.

  • Typed (preferred): Minimum one full page (max two pages), 12-point, Arial font, single spaced

  • Written: Minimum 500 words, up to 1,000 words maximum

  • Must Answer Each question:

    • Why do you want to be a Forestry Technician or Wildland Firefighter?

    • Explain your understanding of the commitment it takes for a career in the forestry and fire service?

    • Give an example of how you overcame any setbacks in life.

    • Why should you be selected to receive a Wildland Fire Academy fee waiver?

Not all fee waiver applications will be granted however, if you meet the low income requirements we may be able to offer tuition assistance which reduces the fee and provides alternative payment options.
